Veteran's Aids and Attendance Benefits

 

The maximum Aids and Attendance benefits for 2008 are as follows:   

Single Veteran                          $1,554.00 Per Month 

Married Veteran                       $1,842.00 Per Month 

Widowed Spouse                     $   998.00 Per Month  

Veteran Married to Veteran      $2,400.00 Per Month

 

Once awarded aid and attendance or housebound status, a veteran may obtain free medications, medical equipment, incontinence supplies, glasses, and hearing aides from the VA Hospital/Clinic via U.S. Mail without going to the VA Clinic or Hospital.

 

Non-Service Connected Aid and Attendance benefits may be claimed by a Veteran, Widowed Spouse, or Disabled Adult Child.  The following criteria must be met:

1.      Veteran must have served at least ninety days active duty with one day of the ninety during a war period

2.     Veteran must not have been  Dishonorably Discharged

3.     Claimant must have a physician statement declaring Claimant as housebound and in need of assistance from another individual, including assisted living services

4.     Claimant must have less than $80,000.00 in assets (not including home, car, and personal belongings

5.     Claimant's household out-of-pocket yearly medical expenses(including the cost of assisted living) must exceed or come close to Claimant’s total yearly household gross income

6.     Widowed spouse must have been married to the veteran at the time of the veteran's death or have had children by the veteran and never remarried
