March 2008 Newsletter

...From Leigh

    image001

I hope you enjoyed the snow. It was really beautiful. I thought we were going to go without any snow or ice this winter. The first time it snowed, the boys had fun making snow balls and playing in the snow. The second time it snowed was amazing. The boys were able to build snow forts. I don’t think I have ever seen 7 inches of snow in Denton. I am glad it stayed long enough for the boys to have time to play with it.

My son Brad entered the science fair. His project was the "5 second rule. Is it true?" He found that a banana slice on the floor for only 3 seconds had strep bacteria on it. Even the graham cracker had some bacteria on it. The articles we read on the subject said what really makes a difference is not how long it is on the floor, but how dirty the floor is. Apparently, the bacteria and viruses grab on right away.

The other health advice I can pass on to you is don’t eat raw cake batter. They tell you not to eat it because of the danger of the eggs giving you salmonella. Only 1 in 20,000 eggs is contaminated. Cooking gets rid of the bacteria. I found the one egg that had it. I won’t eat raw cake batter again. It wasn’t worth it.

The cartoon in this newsletter changes daily, so you might want to check it again.

Sincerely,

Leigh
